Head of Communications, UK & Ireland, with a focus on Public Relations

The Comms team here is a world-class team of communicators. They connect and engage with media, analysts, employees and wider audiences through social media. They are in tune with everything that’s happening around them. They build connections and enable relevant conversations that influence measurable opinions and behaviours.

You will work closely with the business leaders of the UK & Ireland, as well as marketing, global communications and other support functions to craft and drive outcome-based communications programmes; accountable for measurable results.
 
The Role:
You will be responsible for managing a matrixed team of communicators, creating and delivering an integrated communications programme across PR, social media and employee and executive communications. You’ll work in partnership with all communications functions and stakeholders, including the country leadership team.

Whilst you hold accountability and ownership for the strategy for communications as a whole in the UK & Ireland, day to day your key influencers will primarily include the media, with consideration for other audiences such as social media influencers, government and employees. 

The success of this job requires the ability to balance a number of priorities as part of the EMEA communications team. It requires the ability to prioritise and focus on the areas where communications can have the biggest impact and demonstrate tangible results around influencing their audience's perceptions, attitudes and behaviours. 

Some of your main responsibilities will be:

Translating business goals into communications goals, understanding audience perceptions, and crafting and driving integrated communications campaigns (internal and external) in support of the business's global and regional business objectives.
  • Creating and executing on local integrated communications plans that consider all comms channels and align with UK, EMEA and global priorities/campaigns.
  • Maintaining and evolving executive messaging and platforms that positions the company and the speaker as true thought leaders within a fast evolving and competitive market, including a country narrative by engaging with stakeholders from different business entities.
  • Writing a variety of engaging content for external audiences.
  • Working directly with journalists and other key influencers in the UK and Ireland, based on excellent traditional media expertise and relationship within technology, national and business publications as well as with key social/online influencers will be required.
  • Track and report on communications outcome metrics and use the data to continually improve ongoing communications campaigns.
  • Provide communications counsel to relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Working as part of a regional and global team, building and maintaining strong working relationships with the EMEA Comms Team, across the business and in HQ to develop insight into business goals and key activities in order to convert these into communications campaigns.
  • Managing and collaborating with the communications agency who support the business's PR efforts.
  • Project management with the ability to meet milestones.
& You:
  • Ten or more years of external communications experience, including Public Relations and Social Media
  • Experience of working in a global company
  • Experience of managing PR agencies (client-side preferable, if agency-side must be Account Director or above)
  • Excellent editorial and storytelling skills
  • Data-driven communications strategy and planning
  • A proven track record of translating business goals into communications goals, understanding audience perceptions, and crafting integrated communications campaigns in support of the company and region business objectives.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to meet milestones, and balance concurrent projects
  • Senior level experience in giving counsel to executives; with the gravitas and credibility to influence senior management
  • A deep understanding of how communications and marketing should work together
  • Experience of issues and crisis management
